Inclusion Reviews
Organising the review
Inclusion Reviews - guidance for reviews of all-through, secondary and large primary schools is written
to support the review team to plan and carry-out the review. It is also openly available to school
leaders as part of a transparent and collaborative approach to the process.
The information below includes some key 'take-aways' from the document and can be used by school
leaders to support their preparation for the day.
Prior to the day of the review… please:
y forward a copy of your completed self-evaluation to the review team lead. This should be
done five working days before the review
y ensure that your staff know what to expect from the process and where they are meeting
reviewers
y liaise with the review team lead, as appropriate
Putting together the timetable… please:
y use the example timetable (below) as a guide. You do not need to put the meetings in the
same order, or at the same times, as in the example. However, the example does identify all
meetings that need to take place
y schedule the initial 'Leading Inclusion' meeting before any other review activity. After this,
all other activity can be scheduled in whatever order you prefer (but please try to keep the
meetings in their original column)
y identify the location of all meetings on the timetable
y identify which staff members will be attending each meeting, along with their roles
y ensure that the SENCO and the Disadvantage lead can attend at least one meeting
y ensure that you include opportunities for the review team to see any additional focus areas
that you agreed with the review team lead in the pre-meeting (if applicable)
y invite 6-8 pupils to attend each pupil meeting. Pupils should not be chaperoned by school
staff at these meetings
y invite 3-6 staff members to attend each teacher/support staff session
y invite as many leaders as appropriate to the SLT/other leader sessions
y allocate 30 minutes per block (other than the initial 'Leading Inclusion' meeting which requires
45 minutes)
y set aside a space for a team base (this can also be used as one of the venues for meetings
throughout the day)
